Franklin-Christoph/ public relations consultant/ funny blog

This is from www.badcb.blogspot.ca

Aug. 13 Franklin-Christoph: I found this in my 2007 emails.  I went to the site and they're selling $100 pens.  Seriously.  Then I found that there is a poetry contest and the prizes are money, and they will give away $150 writing instruments.

Aug. 15 Literary agents: I had written down to look for literary agents.  I  Google "Literary agents in Edmonton."  Here are a couple things that popped up:

Raider Publishing: http://www.raiderpublishing.com

Literary and Rights Agency: http://wlwritersagency.com/main/about-2

It's for book authors, I need a TV writer agent.

Writer's Guild of Alberta: I then contacted them about getting an agent.

Fun article: I found this article called "Why you don't need an agent yet."  It's by Sheldon Bull who struggled to get an agent and a job.  He discussed how this one agent he met wasn't helpful.  He then found a working TV writer who gave him really brutally honest notes about his writing, and it helped him improve as a writer.  He was then able to get a writer's job.

Aug. 18 Litfest: I was reading an article in the Edmonton Journal by Richard Helm.  He talks about how he won't be the literary editor anymore, but will still be working at the newspaper.  He mentions that Litfest came out in 2006 and how 6 yrs later, not a lot of people know about it.

I didn't know about this festival until last year.  It's not as big as those summer festivals like the Art Works Festival.  Litfest comes in the fall.

Aug. 20 Public relations consultant: I was reading in 24 News, and there was an article that mentioned being one.  According to this website, it says it's like a publicist and media relations consultant.  The job is "inform, influence, or persuade people."  It mentions creating proposals, press releases, event planning, etc.

According to this site, it's about making their clients as well known and look good in the public eye.

This job needs lots of written communication with media launches, speeches, and press releases.  Organizing events seems stressful because so many things can go wrong.  I am conscientious and will try to predict and control the consequences.  It mentioned develop promotional strategies so you must be creative in advertising the client.

Aug. 21 Journalism blogs: Florine Church sent me this article "100 Best Blogs for Journalism Students."  It starts off with how newspapers are shutting down due to the internet and digital age.  However, it talks about how there are lots of journalists writing for the internet and how you can still make money.

There are some journalists that have their own blogs.

Funny blog: It did lead to this funny blog called "Overheard in the Newsroom."  These are funny things being said there:

A wise intern: “A journalist’s job is to accumulate sources, friends, and potential ex-lovers.”

“Does anyone want these Tostitos crumbs? It’s a newsroom, at least three of you want them and just aren’t saying it.”

Aug. 23 Old notes: I found a note I wrote back in 2007.  It said: "Look for agents in the phone book."  I did and there wasn't any.

Also from back then I had written: "Try to get an internship at a TV station."  So I had thought of that idea before instead of this year where I really started applying for positions.

Flashback: This leads to a flashback of 2003 when I was upgrading and trying to get into NAIT's TV program.  I was talking to this woman from CBC for an internship.  She said those internships are only given to NAIT TV students.

Does anyone remember in 2004 when A-Channel went on strike?  I couldn't apply there.

Creative writing: On the piece of paper, I had written down about a character who finds someone close to her went missing.  Then finds him and he has turned into a vampire.

Then I thought: It's been on done on Buffy.  In the season 4 premiere called "The Freshman" where Buffy meets this guy named Eddie when they're lost on campus.  Then he went missing.  Buffy finds him and sees that he's turned into a vampire.

Buffy: I'm sorry.
Eddie: I'm not.
Eddie attacks her.

Then a couple episodes later Willow runs into Harmony, this girl she went to high school with.

Willow: You haven't changed a bit.
Harmony: Well, I have.
Harmony turns into a vampire and attacks Willow.

Aug. 25 Linked In: Good news.  One of my old college teachers confirmed me on Linked In.  It's been a few months when I contacted her.

Rain script: I have been writing this script here and there, but I haven't written anything good enough for it to be typed up.  If it's typed up, it's good enough to be saved.  Today I finally typed it up.  I have finally went and saved my latest draft and sent it to myself in my email.

Now I have started rewriting it from Rain's view to Damon's view.  If the Damon version isn't good, I will delete it and revert back to the original script I saved in my email.

Aug. 26 Student for a day: I remember reading about Student for a Day at NAIT.  I then found it's called the Buddy System.  It's where you can go to the school's program you're interested in, and spend a day there.  Go to the classes, ask students questions, and experience it.  Here's the link.  It says for 2009/2010, so I don't know if they still do it.  I'll call.

Aug. 27: I emailed them.

Short story: I got a letter from the Poetry Institute of Canada.  They rejected my short story "The Email."  They have also rejected "Purse" before.  They did publish "TJ's Story" and "Chase."  You win some, and you lose some.  You can read all those stories on my blog.

Aug. 28 Phone book: I have this 2001 phone book page that I ripped out.  It's for "Video Production and reproduction services."  It had this ad for this TV company I did a job interview for.  Everything else on it is for video equipment, and video reproduction.

I looked up this yr's phone book, under TV, it had 3 TV production companies I pitched to.  I then looked at Video and there were way more.  I had pitched to some already, but some I may have missed.
