fall 2019 TV season (part 2)/ Harvard free online classes

This is from Apr. 2020 on my blog called Tracy's Blog, but I forgot to post this on my The Vertex Fighter blog.  Here it is:

Here is a blog post that is not about COVID- 19 until you read the "my week" part.

Feb. 2, 2020 Emergence: I saw the whole first season (13 episodes) of this show.

"A police chief investigates a case involving a young child found near the site of a mysterious accident."

Pros:

1. There is a good opening of the night and lights flickering.  There is a plane crash.  The lead character Jo (Allison Tolman) is the police chief and gets a call to investigate a private jet that crashed.  The 9 yr old girl Piper (Alexa Swinton) is found near by.  She has no memory like dissociative amnesia.  The National Transportation Safety Board wants to capture Piper.

2. The cast:

Allison Tolman as Jo is good and likeable.

Alexa Swinton as Piper is also good and likeable.  She is young and talented.

Owain Yeoman as Benny the reporter is good.  (He's from The Mentalist).

Robert Bailey Jr. as officer Chris.

Ashley Aufderheide as teen daughter Mia.

Clancy Brown as grandpa Ed.

Donald Faison as ex- husband Alex.  (He's from the TV show and movie Clueless, and the TV show Scrubs.)

2. There is good writing with lots of drama, conflict, and tension.  There is a good mystery:

Who is Piper?

Why does she have these special abilities like telekinesis?

Why does the government want her?

Why is there a chip in Piper?

Benny is a reporter- his job didn't seem contrived.

Alex is a civil engineer- his job didn't seem contrived.

I'm saying "contrived" because there are some TV shows that have to have a news reporter as a character so he or she can be involved in the show.

There were 3 bad guys on this show.  At first it was this character, then another character, and then another character.

3. There is good police work on Jo and Chris.  Piper's parents come to pick her up.  It's like the saying: "Trust, but verify."  Jo goes to heat up their coffee cups, and tells Chris to pull finger prints off them.  The parents didn't want to show pictures of Piper and them on their phones.

Jo gets her family and Piper to leave the home.

4. There is good dialogue:

Benny: You never write it until you have the whole story.

My opinion: Or in my case with my blog, I never publish it until I have the whole story.  I can start taking down notes and write a draft.

Jo: It helps to talk about things that are scary or sad, then we know we're not alone.

I'm going to put that in my inspirational quotes.

5. There is some good action.

6. There are good special effects.

Cons: None.

Comparisons:

A character has no memory of who he or she is:  It was done on Blindspot and Kyle XY.

A kid has special powers: It was done on the TV show Believe.  However, on Emergence, the kid doesn't have special powers because she was born with it.  There was a totally different reason.

My opinion: I watched most of the episodes in one week.  It was good.

I have low expectations this show will get a second season.  This is from Nov. 2019:

Feb. 9, 2020 Evil:  I saw the whole first season (13 episodes) of this show.

"A skeptical female clinical psychologist joins a priest-in-training and a blue-collar contractor as they investigate supposed miracles, demonic possession, and other extraordinary occurrences to see if there's a scientific explanation or if something truly supernatural is at work."

Pros:

1. There is a good opening.  Kristen the clinical pyschologist is interviewing a murderer, and there are flashbacks of the murder happening.  He says he blacked out.

2. The cast:

Katja Hervers as Kristen the clinical psychologist is good.  She has 4 daughters.  Her husband is traveling and working as a hiker as she watches the kids.

Mike Colter as David Acosta who is the priest-in-training.  He is kind and compassionate.

Aasif Mandvi as Ben, the contractor is good.

Michael Emerson as the bad guy/ psychologist Leland is evil.  He's from Person of Interest.  I never saw that show.  He taunts and makes people do evil things like commit murder.

Christine Lahti as the sassy grandma Sheryl who watches the 4 kids.

3. The writing is good with lots of drama, conflict, and tension.  Every week, there is a case of: "Is this demonic possession or is this psychology, or a technical thing?"

In the pilot, there was this audio where the murderer Orson and his wife are talking.  The wife recorded the audio with this gurgling noise.

Ben checks it out, and it was the sink that made the noise.

David: Do you think science can answer every question?
Kristen: Yes, I do.  Not just all at once.

4. There is scary imagery like a demon in Kristen's nightmares.

5. There is a little humor like Kristen needs to figure out who visited Orson in prison.

Guard: You have to sign in to get in it.
Kristen: I have to sign in again.
Kristen starts flipping through the pages to find the name.
Guard: Seriously?

Cons:

1. This is a mild con: I find this can get too scary, dark, and disturbing for me.

Comparisons:  This reminds me of the TV show The Exorcist.

My opinion: The show is good.

The show got a 2nd season:

Apr. 17, 2020 FBI: I saw the season 2 finale.  It was episode 19.  There are supposed to be 22 episodes, but they had to cut it short because of COVID- 19 that shut down production.

Yeah, well at least I got to watch nearly a whole season.  I series record this show on Global, and my DVR didn't record episode 18 "American Dreams."  I go to my Telus on Demand, and there wasn't that episode.  Hopefully, I will get watch that.

Nancy Drew: I saw the season 1 finale.  It was episode 18.  There are supposed to be 22 episodes, but they had to cut it short because of COVID- 19 that shut down production.

They solved the mysteries of Lucy's Sable's death and Tiffany Hudson's death (that was set in the pilot) on the show.  They had another murder and that was solved.

My week:

Sun. Apr. 12, 2020 Shoppers Drug Mart: Today is Easter Sun. and my family and I don't really celebrate this holiday.  I went to the Shoppers Drug Mart in City Centre that's beside TD.  They are only allowed 10 customers in at a time.  There wasn't much of a wait.

I went there to buy my chips and cookies.  I haven't bought any of that since Jan. 2020.  In mid. Mar., my 2nd restaurant job let me have all these muffins, danishes, and cinnamon buns because were closed for the weekend.  I put them in the freezer and ate them for 2 weeks.

Mon. Apr. 13, 2020 Keanu Reeves look alike:

Keanu Reeves has a doppelganger in Brazil and netizens think the 49-year-old from Rio de Janeiro looks just like the Hollywood star, who has appeared in several blockbuster films including The Matrix and John Wick.
In an interview with GQ, Brazilian Marcos Jeeves (not his real name) revealed that he has been told since he was a teen that he looks like The Matrix star.
When asked by GQ if being Reeves' doppelganger had helped him flirt, Jeeves said, "Yes, I am single and looking like Keanu Reeves really helps me.
"Some women come to praise me in the comments on my Instagram photos. But I always maintain a respect and do not use the fact of looking like him to take advantage of any situation, including my followers."
Jeeves was first made aware of his lookalike status by a high school friend more than 30 years ago.
"A friend of mine from high school, after watching Point Break, spoke about how it had an actor in the film very similar to me and recommended that I watch the film. Then my admiration for him began," he added.
Both photo's top of page are both Reeves pics.

Google his name and look at images. You will find him without his beard. Not even close to Keanu.

If you are a Wollyhood actor look-alike you will make money if you go to L.A. but not down south in Brazil.

He could be a passable, tacky, look a like in front of that theatre in Hollywood but that's about it. Eyes too small ,face too long, nose too wide and beard too good.

  • Neo, Will we be going into the 5th Dimension this year?

  • Bill And Bill's excellent adventure?

  • Having a beard and similar hair doesn't automatically make you look like Keanu. Close, but no cigar.

The eyes too beady

My opinion: I think he looks like him.

Employment insurance: I was calling and was put on hold all of last week.

Today I called and was able to get through and talked to someone.  She was able to fix my EI report.

I then filed for my EI report for the past 2 weeks.

Now I have to wait for them to process the report.

Service Canada is doing their best.

Tues. Apr. 14, 2020 Harvard free online classes: These are self- paced online classes from STEM to Shakespeare.  If you click on "Take Course", it will lead to EdX.  If you want a verified certificate, it will cost you:

Introductory courses: $49 USD.

Intermediate: $99 USD

Advanced: $199 USD

My opinion: For the last 4 weeks of quarantine, I was looking for a work from home job intensely.  If there wasn't a quarantine, I would still be looking for a work from home job, but not as intensly.  I really feel like I have looked everywhere online for one.

Now I'm switching gears from work to school.  Maybe I could learn something to help me get a job.

I will look into the Introductory courses because I don't want to learn things that are too hard.

I have researched all the MacEwan University programs in 2014 and posted them on my blog.  I researched a lot of college programs from other colleges that year.  I still research here and there and post them on my blog.

Canadian winter preparation: I have been doing this for years.  In Oct. before snow falls, I do this:

1. Get a haircut

2. Pick up my prescription pills

3. Recycle my pens and batteries at Staples

Then I don't have to go out during the winter.

The variables of going out in the winter time:

1. The temperature:

If it's -10 to -20 degrees, I don't go out for fun.

If it's 0 to -10 degrees, it's tolerable.

If it's 0 and above degrees, it's warm.

2. The snowfall: If there is a huge snowfall, I avoid going out because you can get stuck on the road with all that snow.

3. Transportation: If you drive a car, then you can get stuck in the snow.

If you take the bus, then you have to wait outside in the cold.

The traffic is slow because of the snow.

4. You only go out if you have to: School, work, doctor or dentist appointments, job interviews, grocery shopping, etc.

Apr. 15, 2020 Grocery shopping safety tips: The usual of:

- wearing face masks, rubber gloves
-physical distancing
-write a list and avoid making more than one trip because you forgot something
-don't bring the whole family

Zoom job interview: I have attended job interviews in-person and on the phone.  Today is the first time I attended an interview on Zoom.  There were a couple of hiccups like I had to unmute myself by pressing the microphone logo.

The boss told me that the job was where I had to find the clients and job leads, and call them and sell the service to them.  I don't like and am not good at finding the clients.

If someone gives me the phone numbers to call, I can do that.

Apr. 17, 2020 Shine the Spotlight on You: I was listening to this telesummit.  After I watch each video, I copy and paste the link on my Facebook page:

"Dr. Heather Rothbauer-Wanish, owner of Feather Communications, based in Colfax, Wisconsin, has been working with job seekers since 2008 to develop dynamic resumes for today's marketplace. My opinion: She mainly says: "It's not bragging if it's true."  If you did get a Bachelor's degree and you did win this award at work, you should put that on your resume.

Her free gift was how to write your bio like it should be short, and put the important information first like your certification.

I know and I already applied that on my blog intro.
