funny and annoying (part 2)/ school and job advice/ Forest App/ The Freecycle Network

This blog post is all about how I try to be funny, and end up annoying my sister.  I had accidentally offended my friend by trying to be funny, and end up offending her.  This is to show I am only annoying and offensive to my big sister and no one else.

This will be Part 2 to this:

This is from Aug. 2013:

Tracy's blog: joke flops/ funny and annoying/ funny wedding video (badcb.blogspot.com)

This is from the Aug. 2017 post "summer 2017 TV shows":

Aug. 4, 2017 People annoying their siblings: I wrote about this before:

Jul. 21, 2017 Argyle Sweater: This is a comic I cut out on Jul. 14, 2017.  I can't copy and paste it here.  Click on the link and the date and you will see 2 bears fighting each other.  It's about sibling rivalry.

Bear: Hey, Benny, why ya mauling yourself?  Huh, Ben?  Why ya keep mauling yourself?

Caption: Ben hated being the youngest of the cubs.

I don't find it funny because it's about bullying and beating up your sibling.

I find it funny because it's about bears acting like humans.

http://badcb.blogspot.ca/2017/07/fall-2016-tv-season-comedy.html

That reminds me of an Aug. 2013 blog post I wrote.  It listed all the funny and annoying things I say to my sister.  It was mainly when I was a kid and teenager.

You guys don't know this, but this is the most read blog post of all time on my blog.  It has 9093 page views:

"Aug. 5 Joke flops: I've been thinking about how I unintentionally offended my friend in an email.  I thought I made this light joke, and she would either laugh or be indifferent.  Instead she was offended.  From now on, I will be more careful, and stick with jokes that have been confirmed that there were some laughs by some people.  Well, I will admit that I have told jokes that have flopped.  These are dark ones, so I'm forewarning you right now, they could be offensive."

Tracy playing with a panda bear: I have written about this before, but it wasn't on that blog post.  It was that time when I was 13 and my sister was 15:

S was reading a magazine and Tracy was playing with a panda bear.
Tracy puts her thumb on the panda's nose like the panda is giving S an angry and dirty look.
A few moments pass as the panda continues to give S a dirty look.
S angrily snatches the panda out of Tracy's hand.
Tracy: Hey!

It's funny because it's about a panda acting like a human.

Aug. 6, 2017: If this was a comic, the caption would be: "S hated having a little sister."

This is from Oct. 2017:

"In Brazil, Class C now stands for 'crisis'"/ "I'm not cut out for this"

Oct. 20, 2017 Pooch Café comic: On Oct. 14, 2017, there was this comic.

Panel 1: The dog Poncho and a Bird are watching TV.

Bird: I don't know how much more TV I can watch.

Panel 2:

Poncho: Hey, if you're gonna be friends with someone, you have to respect the
other person's interests.

Panel 3:

Bird: Worm chip?
Poncho: Get that outta my face.

My opinion: It reminded me of the friend I had accidentally offended when I made a light
and fun joke of one of her interests.  I do respect her and her interests.

It also reminded me of my sister.  I wrote about this before:

Tracy playing with a panda bear: I have written about this before, but it wasn't on that blog post.  It was that time when I was 13 and my sister was 15:

S was reading a magazine and Tracy was playing with a panda bear.
Tracy puts her thumb on the panda's nose like the panda is giving S an angry and dirty look.
A few moments pass as the panda continues to give S a dirty look.
S angrily snatches the panda out of Tracy's hand.
Tracy: Hey!

S might as well be saying: Get that outta my face.

Dec. 23, 2021: This is:

A. Annoying
B. Funny
C. Both
D. Neither

S gives school advice to Tracy, and Tracy doesn't listen and instead makes a stupid joke about it:

Cut to Tracy is 15 and S is 18, and they're walking to school.

S: And if you don't go to college, you might as well be working at retail for the rest of your life.
Tracy: Fine, I'll just go and work at a tire store then.
S laughs for a moment and then regains her composure.
S: The point is, to get more than just a job, but a career.

The "tire store" was from the TV show Angel.  Wesley was pretending to be Angel and he meets a woman named Virginia who says: "Maybe I'll run away and work at tire store."

This is the episode:

My opinion: This is both mildly funny and annoying.

S gives job advice to Tracy, and Tracy doesn't listen and instead makes a stupid joke about it:

Cut to Tracy is 17 and S is 19.  They're sitting on the computers in the home office.

Tracy: Vivian from Youthone.com says I should write an article for the website because I already write so many polls for them already.
S is happy and excited.
S: Oh what?  Really?  That's so cool, then you can put that on your resume that you got an article published on a website.  So what are you going to write about?
Tracy: "Oh, I don't know.  Something along the lines of: 'Why some people run track.'"
Tracy emphasizes each word of the headline in the air.

S burst out laughing and hits her hand on the table.
S: Shut up!

This was a couple of weeks ago, but we found some video clips of this old PBS kids TV show we used to watch as kids called Ghostwriter:

"A group of kids solves local crimes, capers, and mysteries in their neighborhood, with the help of a ghost who can only communicate through writing and words."

This is from the mystery "Building Bridges (Part 1)":

Cut to Jamal at his locker.  Rob walks by.

Jamal: Hey Rob, where are you going?
Rob: Oh, I'm going to track practice.  I'm on the school newspaper and I have to write an article about the track team.
Jamal: Oh, cool.  So what are you going to write about?
Rob: "Oh, I don't know.  Something along the lines of: 'Why some people run track.'"
Rob emphasizes each word of the headline in the air.

My opinion: This is both very funny and annoying.

When S asked me what I was going to write about, that reminded me of Ghostwriter so I quoted from it.

Also I never wrote an article for Youthone.com.  I didn't know what to write about.  I continued creating polls for them.  The website closed down in 2004 or 2005.  That's okay, because I started Tracy's blog in 2008 to present.

Tracy gives job advice to a sibling, and S says Tracy shouldn't be giving job advice.
Tracy then quotes from The Simpsons:

2010: S has a Bachelor's degree in business and a law degree from the University of Alberta.  She has a career in business.  Tracy has a 2 yr college diploma in Professional Writing at MacEwan University.  She has a regular job at a restaurant.

S is talking about this job ad and maybe applying to it.
Tracy: You should write a list of the pros and cons.

Cut to the next day.

S: "You should write a list of the pros and cons."  I'm not going to take job advice from you.

Tracy then quotes from The Simpsons where Homer becomes obese so he can work from home:

Marge: Con: You're setting a bad example for the kids.
Homer: Pro: Uh, I love you?

Tracy gives school advice to a sibling, and S says Tracy shouldn't be giving school advice.  Tracy then quotes from The Simpsons:

2011: S is an honors student all her life and you can look at the above paragraph.

Tracy is good in English and Social Studies like gets Bs.  She is really bad in math and science and barely passes starting since gr.7- 12.  She needs to go to a math tutor weekly and has her sister help her 20-25 hrs a week tutoring her in math in high school.

Applied Math (the 2nd to lowest math class):

Applied Math 20 in gr. 11: 52%
Applied Math 30 in gr. 12: 50%
Pure Math 30 (grade level) in Centre High: 63%

P is studying to get this certification and he can only take it twice a year.

Tracy: You should take the exam in July.  If you don't pass, then you can take it again in December.
S: Tracy, you're the last person to be giving school advice.

Tracy then quotes from The Simpsons where Homer bowls a perfect game.

Cut to Lisa doing her homework.
Homer: Lisa, honey, do you need some help with your homework?
Lisa: Yeah, sure.  You can help me find 3 words where they use the letter y as a vowel.
Homer slowly backs out of the room.

My opinion: Yeah, well is there anyone here who thought this was bad school and job advice?

Dec. 24, 2021: If you need help with math and science homework from gr. 7-12, don't ask me for help.

If you need help to write, edit your essays, short stories, scripts (for the Screenwriting Meetup) group, you can ask me for help.

Who to ask for help?:

School advice: I remember telling this to Angela and she said something like I was qualified to give school advice because I struggled so much, especially in high school.  However, I struggled, but I wasn't exactly very successful.  I graduated out of high school in 3 yrs with some grade level classes like English 30, Social Studies 33, Applied Math 30, and Biology 30.

If you want to be successful in something like school, ask for help and advice from someone who is very successful in that thing like my sister.

Marriage advice: Do you go to someone who has been divorced twice or someone who has been married for years for marriage advice?

I would ask them both.  Why did the marriage not last?  Why did your marriage last?

I talked to my counselor-in-training C at Cornerstone Counseling.  She is doing her practicum
there and she said "both."

Angela's job advice: This isn't funny, but this is good job advice.  She has a Bachelor's degree in business and has a career in her field.  She is an honors student.  In 2008, I asked her to look over my resume.

Before the resume looked like this:

Call Centre #1: The description of duties.

Store #1:  The description of duties.

Call Centre #2: The description of duties in the same words as Call Centre #1.

Store #2:  The description of duties in the same words as Store #1.

This looked repetitive.  I put this in chronological order of the dates I worked.

She changed this from the dates and grouped the similar jobs together.  Now this doesn't look repetitive.  I emailed the old and the new resumes together to all my friends to show how good this looked:

Call Centre #1                        -the description
Call Centre #2

Store #1                                    -the description
Store #2

Ask good questions: In 2009, I passed my resumes to 80 offices in 7 months and only got 1 call back.  I asked Angela for advice.

Angela: Were they even hiring?

I thought about it, and they weren't hiring.  I was passing out resumes to places that weren't hiring.  If I applied to places that were, I would be getting callbacks.

Learning Strategies: This was in 2019.  I got this in my email about Marie Diamond Feng Shui free online event series.  I listened to it and there was this free phone consultation.

I talked to a guy named Bill and told him about my job search.  I was getting interviews, but not getting hired.

Bill: Are you even qualified?

I would say yes, because I applied to jobs I have experience in like restaurants, stores, and call centres.  I attended the Office Assistant program at MacEwan in 2014 and took a computer class in Microsoft Word 2010 and a Business Communication class.  I have education in getting an office career.  I have worked at the home installation place for 3 months in 2015.

Ashton Kutcher's job advice: He is mainly an actor and producer.  I don't know if you're going to listen to him.  He's smart enough to get into university to study biochemical engineering, but he didn't graduate.

This is from Wikipedia:

Kutcher enrolled at the University of Iowa in August 1996, where his planned major was biochemical engineering, motivated by the desire to cure his brother's heart ailment.[3] At college, Kutcher was kicked out of his apartment for being too "noisy" and "wild".[11] Kutcher stated, "I thought I knew everything but I didn't have a clue. I was partying, and I woke up many mornings not knowing what I had done the night before. I played way too hard. I am amazed I am not dead."[12]

To earn tuition money, Kutcher worked as a college summer hire in the cereal department for the General Mills plant in Cedar Rapids and sometimes sold his blood plasma.[13] While at the University of Iowa, he was approached by a model scout at The Airliner bar in Iowa City, Iowa,[14] and entered the "Fresh Faces of Iowa" modeling competition. Placing first, he won a trip to New York City's International Modeling and Talent Association (IMTA) Convention. Leaving Iowa for a stay in New York City, Kutcher then returned to Cedar Rapids, before relocating to Los Angeles to pursue a career in acting.[11]

On the TV show Punk'd, he played a prank on the rapper Eve.  She was to go to a job interview for a guest- star role on a TV show.  The interview was kind of boring and she didn't show any enthusiasm.  The prank was the Boss was to leave, and the Assistant comes in and walks into the desk and topples it over.

The Assistant blames it on Eve, and Eve yells at him.  At the interview:

Kutcher: Isn't the whole point of a job interview is to show that you're actually interested in the job?

20 yr old Tracy: When I saw this, I thought this was funny.

26 yr old Tracy: I thought about this after 2 yrs of 2010-2011 where I am constantly reading the business section of the newspaper and attending office job interviews: "That's a good job tip.  I should show interest."

Feb. 13, 2022 Tru Calling:

"A university graduate working in the city morgue is able to repeat the same day over again to prevent murders or other disasters."

I used to watch this TV show when I was 18-19 yrs old.  It starred Eliza Dushku (Faith from Buffy).  This was a fun show to watch.  I had a crush on the character Harrison (Shawn Reaves).

There was an episode where Harrison attends a job interview with this woman boss.

Boss: You didn't bring a resume.
Harrison: And what is a "resume"?  A list of jobs that didn't work out?

18 yr old Tracy: lol.

22 yr old Tracy: I had finished one year at Professional Writing at MacEwan.  In the summer of 2007, I got let go from Call Centre #3 after 1 day of training.  They decided to not hire me because I would need more training.  In 2009, I got hired there and worked for 6 months and got laid off due to shortage of work.

I got jobs and then I quit because I didn't like it.  I was a job hopper that summer.

I then thought of the above episode: A list of jobs that don't work out, are the ones that you don't put on your resume.

25 yr old Tracy: When I got laid off from the Soup Place and I was mainly looking for a job.  2010 was the Year of Unemployment.

I would say: A resume is to showcase your education and experience.  Your talents and skills that are relevant to the job.

This is from my Oct. 2021 blog post.  This proves and shows my education and experience about jobs and business.

After reading this, would you listen to me for job advice?

Tracy's ideal life (as a TV writer & producer, Actor, Office Career) vs. Tracy's real life (Part 1)

Apr. 14, 2021 Learning curve:

1. Jobs, careers, and business: In 2010-2012, I read the business section of the newspapers of the Edmonton Journal, the Globe and Mail, and the National Post for 6 days a week.

I felt like I went from a gr. 6 education to a gr. 12 education by how much I learned in 2010-2012.

My family stopped subscribing to the National Post in Apr. 2013.

2010 The Year of Unemployment: I got laid off from the Soup place in Mar. 2010.  In Apr.-Sept, I was looking for a job.

The results:

I got hired at Call Centre #4 and worked there for a day.  The boss let me go because 9 completed surveys wasn't good enough.

I got hired at Call Centre #5 and worked there for 2 days. The boss let me go because I only raised $75 for charities.  This is more like telemarketing.  I didn't like working there.

In Oct. I got hired at the Furniture Store and worked there for 2 weeks.

I was let go.  I then got hired at my 1st Restaurant job and stopped looking for a job.

In my best estimate, I probably went to 5 job interviews a month, so 30 job interviews that year.

2011 The Year of the Office Job Search: 60 job interviews

The results: I attended mostly administrative assistant/ receptionists job interviews.  I got hired at a 2 week temp holiday job at the Fruit Place.

2012 The Year of New Directions: 58 job interviews

The results: I attended mostly administrative assistant/ receptionists job interviews.  I got hired at 2 telemarketer jobs where I call people to sell tickets to theatre plays and concerts.  I was let go at each place because I didn't sell any tickets.

I worked at a door-to-door sales job where I sold the Edmonton Sun newspaper subscriptions.  I sold 5 on the first day.  The way they paid you was that you had to work all 4 days and then you can get paid for the all the subscriptions you sold.

I went there for a day and I didn't like it.  I quit, and I didn't get paid.  That's okay that I didn't get paid.

In 2013 The Year of the Office Job: I got the Office Job and worked there for 5 months.  The Year of the Office Job.  All the work I did from reading the business section of the newspapers and attending job interviews prepared me for this.

In 2014 The Year of Education and Research: I attended a semester at MacEwan Office Assistant program with a Business Communication class and a Computer class.

In 2015 The Year of the Office Job and Dating (and Decluttering): I worked at the home installation place for 3 months.

In 2015-2019: I was reading the business section of the newspapers and attending job interviews.

In 2020: I was mainly looking for a work from home job on the internet.  There were a few interviews.  I read the business section on the internet.

I read the business section of the Edmonton Journal and the Globe and Mail until Sept. 2018.

My family stopped subscribing to the Globe and Mail until Sept. 2018.

My family stopped subscribing to the Edmonton Journal in Feb. 2019.

I still read the business section on the internet.

Now I feel like I'm in post secondary education with job education.

Education: Reading the business section of the newspapers.

Experience: Attending job interviews all around town.

This week doesn't have a theme.  Here are the other 2 blog posts:

"Looking to married couples for longer- and healthier-living"/ "Women Are Healthier And Happier Without A Spouse Or Kids: Expert"

"Amanda Kloots hits back at critics who say she's dating 'too soon' after husband's death"/ "'One Tree Hill' star Bevin Prince's husband dead after being struck by lightning"

My week:

Fri. Aug. 12, 2022 H- Mart: I went there with the Personality Meetup group.  This was in the College Plaza building by the University of Alberta.  My little brother P told me it used to be a Sobey's.  This is a Korean grocery store.  They sell Asian food, but also dishware and stationary.

There is a restaurant in there.

Only on Tuesdays you can buy food from the grocery store and eat it inside the restaurant.

If you order food before 6pm, there will be 20% off.

The food is good.  Big portions.  K ordered this, but he couldn't finish it.  I tried the Beef Intestine Hot Pot for $19.99.  20% off is $15.99.  It was a little spicy, flavorful with onions, and green onions.

S bought the 7 piece sushi with fried tuna.  It looked good.

D bought the huge order of spicy chicken.  This was supposed to be half an order, and there were 7 big pieces.  He ate 2 pieces and saved the rest to bring home.

HMART

CX building: We then drove to this building where H lives.  There are 21 floors and it's really modern looking.  We sat on the big patio.  There are 2 BBQs.  All 12 of us sat around in these nice chairs.

There is a lounge suite.  $1,100 a month for a room, bathroom, living room, and kitchen.  There are 4 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms in this apartment.

I brought my digital camera and took some pics.  The other took pics and I shared onto my Facebook page

Aug. 17, 2022 "Hudson's Bay to resurrect discount retail chain Zellers": Today I found this on CBC:

Canadian department store Zellers hopes to make a comeback next year, a decade after the discount chain shuttered most of its locations.

Hudson's Bay Co. says Zellers will debut a new e-commerce website and expand its brick-and-mortar footprint within select Hudson's Bay department stores across the country in early 2023.

The company says the relaunched Zellers will offer "a digital-first shopping journey that taps into the nostalgia of the brand."

The return of Zellers comes as soaring inflation drives consumers to discount retailers in search of lower prices.

It also comes amid an ongoing lawsuit over a Quebec family's use of the Zellers brand.

Aug. 18, 2022 TV: This week I have been watching the show Departure.  I was also writing some TV show reviews.

This is mid- Aug. and TV is airing all these promos for these new TV shows coming out this fall.  The "upfronts" come in May where TV networks tell about renewals, cancellations, and new TV shows coming out in the fall and mid- season.  I already wrote a list back then.

Forest app: I found this on Leo opinion.  I posted this on Facebook:

comedy comparisons/ Edmonton Valley Zoo/ Cariwest Festival/ my birthday

 Mar. 14, 2016 Comedy comparisons:

A character asks a question and gives a stupid and funny answer:

Once Upon a Time: It was done on the TV show Once Upon a Time where Dr. Whale (David Anders) is helping deliver a baby.

Dr. Whale: Why would anyone want to steal a baby when it's more fun making one?

My opinion: Yeah.

I'm sure some of you guys are laughing at this part of the line and/ or me agreeing with him.
David Anders is one of my favorite actors.

The Simpsons: It was done on The Simpsons.  Homer looked like he sexually harassed the baby- sitter by getting a piece of candy off her butt.

Bart: Why would you want to touch a girl's butt?  That's where cooties come from.

Jan. 29, 2019 The Simpson's ep "Krusty the Clown":

Bart: Where am I supposed to run away to?  College?

Mar. 14, 2016 A character puts on perfume or cologne and gets a rash:

2gether: It was done on the TV movie 2gether about a fictional boy band.  TRL host Carson Daly plays himself and he criticizes this cologne called "Yo Girl."

Daly: "Yo Girl" should be called "No Girl."  Because after I put it on, I got this huge rash and all these guys kept hitting on me.

My life: I put on my brother's cologne "Phoenix" by Axe.  I did get a rash on my skin.  I had put it on my neck.  Then I stopped putting it on my neck, and I put this cream, and it healed my skin.

That was more of a TV and real life comparison.

Jun. 16, 2016 Homer Simpson singing a song to another tune:

Homer creates a website where he's Mr. X:

Cut to Homer sitting on a toilet in a stall.  He is singing: "I've been sitting on the toilet" to the tune of "I've been working on the railroad."

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gpJwsoe4wXc

The episode where the Simpsons join a cult called the Movemetarians:

Cut to Homer fishing.  He is singing "Na na na na fishing, fishing, fishing" to the Batman theme song "Na na na na Batman, Batman, Batman."

Oct. 13, 2016: The former president George Bush moves across the street from the Simpsons.  Prior to it, there was a rummage sale in the neighborhood.

Homer: Now, lets give it up for Table Five!
He starts singing Table Five to the song "Staying Alive."

"The Simpsons" Two Bad Neighbors (TV Episode 1996) - IMDb

May 20, 2017 Character A asks several different questions and Character B gives the same answer:

This happened in real life:

Later, my grandma had missed dinner because she was on the phone.  She comes to the table and only P and Tracy are eating.  We are all talking in Chinese.

Grandma: Did S eat?
P and Tracy (unison): Yeah, everybody ate.
Grandma: Did mom eat?
P: Yeah, everybody ate.
Grandma: Did dad eat?
P: Yeah, everybody ate.
Tracy: "It ate everybody!"

The Simpsons: Does anyone remember the episode where Homer becomes a truck driver and Bart comes along?  They go to a drive-in movie theatre and watched a movie called
"The Monster that Ate Everybody."

Cut to Homer and Bart watching it.

Female movie character: Did it eat Patrick too?
Male movie character: It ate everybody.
Female movie character: What about Erica?
Homer and Bart (angrily and in unison with the male movie character): It ate everybody.

It's in the 4 min 22 sec part:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZrG3OH72CTQ

The Sausage Factory: It was an old show that I saw back in 2002.  There was an alternate title "Much Ado About Whatever."

JC meets a girl and they have so much in common.

Gilby: So what's her last name?
JC: I don't know.
Gilby: So what school does she go to?
JC: I don't know.
Gilby: So where does she live?
JC: I don't know.

Job interview: It happened at a job interview that I went to in 2012.  I was to be a server in fine dining.  The woman boss was asking me all these specific questions about:

What do you know about wine?  What goes well with steak or fish?

My answers were all: "No" and "I don't know."

The interview ended with her thanking me for coming and how I won't be getting hired.

Jan. 24, 2018 The jokes that are "just sitting there":

It was done on the sitcom ClippedBuzzy is talking to Charmaine.

Charmaine: You're the one who called me Dr. Dradle.
Buzzy: You're black and you're Jewish.  It was just sitting there.

http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2361094/?ref_=nv_sr_2

The Social: They were interviewing Jordan Axani.  I wrote about this before.

Host: So who do you want to play you in a movie?
A woman in the audience yells out: Matt Damon!
The audience laughs.

My opinion: I was going to say that.

Axani: Yeah, Matt Damon.  If I get to do Jason Bourne stuff like shoot guns and stuff.  I was going to say Sean Connery.

Nov. 27, 2020 A character is doing something embarrassing and it's recorded on tape or the radio:

This is Us episode "Honestly": Randall is a city council man and he records his daily news on the website.  Malik is a teen boy who is shadowing him for the day.  Malik gets a phone call from his baby- sitter and has to take the call.

Randall then starts changing his clothes as the recorder is still on.  Randall was humiliated.  However, his video got 100, 000 views than the usual 5000.

I told this to my little brother P and he said it was done before:

Futurama ep "The Problem with Popplers": The alien leader LRRR is angry and sends a threatening video to eat humans.  At the 34 second mark he ends the transmission.  Then he starts scratching himself.

Radio Active: This is a old Canadian teen sitcom I used to watch when I was in jr. high school.  Tanya and Morgan are arguing.

Tanya: You're the one who was dancing, and everybody was watching you because you had toilet paper on your shoe.
Morgan: Oh my God, we're still on air!

Feb. 19, 2016 Funny Between video: I decided to check out about the Canadian TV show Between.  I went on Twitter and follow the Edmonton actor Kyle Mac on the show (he plays the bad guy Ronnie.)  There is Jim Watson (who played the good guy Pat) on the show.  Watson is at Chuck's trailer.  Justin Kelly (from Degrassi plays the popular jock Chuck on Between).

Watson slowly opens the trailer's door.  There is some music playing.

Cut to Justin Kelly wearing a cowboy hat and his letterman jacket on his elbows.  He's dancing to it and then he turns his head.  He's startled when he sees the door is open.

Watson closes the door quickly and runs.

I was surprised to see it.  I laughed at it.

It looks like it was unintentionally funny.

Yeah, well at least Kelly wasn't changing his clothes.

Aug. 2, 2022 "Despite warm summer, red-hot inflation putting a chill on ice cream truck profits"Today I found this article by Hina Alam on CBC:

It's been a scorching summer across much of Canada, but that is cold comfort for ice cream truck operators like Meedo Falou, who says inflation and high fuel costs are melting away his profits.

"Ice cream went up over 60 per cent. We had to jack the price up by a dollar. We couldn't do more, because of the consumers. We just want them to be able to afford ice cream."

"Ice cream truck owners need to seek out catering opportunities, food truck events, go to office blocks and hospitals and say, 'Hey, we can put on a corporate event for you,"' he said.

"They need to hustle now a little more than probably they ever had before."

Aug. 5, 2022 Edmonton Valley Zoo: My friend Cham invited to her work BBQ that was held there.  She bought 5 tickets ($6 each) and brought her sister and the sister's 3 daughters (9- 12 yrs old).  I may have been to this zoo once when I was kid with my family.  This costs $15. 95 for adult admission.

They picked me up in downtown and when we drove there, the neighborhood by the Zoo has really nice houses.  They had 2nd floor patios.

The BBQ served coleslaw, potato salad, and mac and cheese.  There was chicken and brisket (beef).  I, my friend and her family all thought the meat didn't have much flavor.  The coleslaw was good.

I thought there was going to be hamburgers and hot dogs.  There was a lot of bottle water and cans of pop.

Then we got ice cream.  There were lots of flavors and I got toasted smores in a cup.

There were lots of displays of animals like a hummingbird, a leopard, etc. made out of Legos.  I took pictures of them.

I saw some 2 zebras standing, and then they ran around a bit.

The tiger was resting.

The lynx was walking around a bit.

The 3 seals were resting.

There was a huge boa constrictor sitting in an aquarium.  It looked it weighed 200 pounds.

I didn't see the elephant Lucy in- person.  However, Cham's sister videotaped Lucy come out of the building by sticking her head out for a bit, and then going back in.  Cham said that when she was a kid she threw some snow at Lucy, and Lucy threw some snow back with her trunk.

The weather was good because it wasn't too hot or cold.

Aug. 6, 2022 Cariwest Festival: I told the Personality Meetup group on Whatsapp that I was going there and I may see them there.

I looked at the jewelry, bags, and clothes.  There was loud dance music playing.  There were food booths that sold jerk chicken.

I was there for 30 min. by myself checking this out.  Then I was going to go home, but then Mei from the Personality Meetup group was there with a two other guys.  I then stayed and hung out with them for 1hr 30 min.  I waited in line with them so they could get a caricature drawn of them by Laurel Hawkswell.

The pictures were being drawn for free for the customers, because Cariwest paid Hawkswell.  There was an hour line up to get your drawing.  I didn't want my picture drawn.

City Centre: I went to the food court and it was full during the festival.

Animethon: I didn't go to this because you had to pay at least $35 to get in and I'm not really interested in this.  I did see a few people in the mall and on the street wearing Anime costumes.

Aug. 8, 2022 "Nearly 9 million Canadians have uncashed cheques from the CRA — worth $1.4B": Today I found this article by Pete Evans on CBC:

Canada's tax agency says nearly 9 million Canadians are owed some sort of government cash, and it's going to send out reminders starting this month to tens of thousands of people to let them know.

The Canada Revenue Agency said Monday that it has roughly $1.4 billion worth of uncashed cheques on its books, some of which has been owed as far back as 1998. As of May, 8.9 million Canadians had some sort of uncashed cheque attached to their name. The average amount owed is $158, the tax agency said.

"We want to make sure this money ends up where it belongs. In taxpayers' pockets!" the tax agency said.

The CRA said Canadians can check if they have uncashed payments by logging in to or signing up for an online CRA account.

"Singer and actress Olivia Newton-John dead at 73": This is on CBC.  I was never a fan of hers.  I did watch Grease in gr. 7 and 9 drama class:

Olivia Newton-John, the Grammy-winning superstar who reigned on pop, country, adult contemporary and dance charts with such hits as Physical and You're the One That I Want and won countless hearts as Sandy in the blockbuster film version of Grease, has died. She was 73.

Newton-John, a longtime resident of Australia whose sales topped 100 million albums, died Monday, her husband John Easterling wrote on Instagram and Facebook.

"Dame Olivia Newton-John, (73) passed away peacefully at her ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends," Easterling, announced in the post.

Newton-John's family did not give any details about the cause of her death but described her as "a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer."

Aug. 10, 2022 "Domino’s Pizza quits Italy after locals shun American pies": Today I found this article by Giulia Morpurgo and Antonio Vanuzzo on the Financial Post

Domino’s Pizza Inc.’s footprint in the home of pizza proved to be short lived with Italians favouring local restaurants over the American version.

The last of Domino’s 29 branches have closed after the company started operations in the country seven years ago. It borrowed heavily for plans to open 880 stores, but faced tough competition from local restaurants expanding delivery services during the pandemic and sought protection from creditors after running out of cash and falling behind on its debt obligations.

The U.S. chain entered Italy in 2015 through a franchising agreement with ePizza SpA and planned to distinguish itself by providing a structured national delivery service along with American-style toppings including pineapple.

Its ambitious expansion ran into trouble as traditional pizza makers scaled up deliveries or signed deals with third-party services such as Deliveroo Plc, Just Eat Takeaway.com NV or Glovo to bring their products to customers’ homes while restrictions prevented dining out.

My opinion: Yeah, well at least Domino's scaled slowly by opening 29 stores and last 7 years.  Unlike Target opening over 100 stores in Canada in 2013, and then closing down all of them in 2015.

Aug. 11, 2022  "McDonald's will soon reopen its locations in Ukraine": I found this on CBC.  I like this article because this is good news that McDonald's paid for the 10,000 employees who aren't working:

McDonald's will start reopening some of its restaurants in Ukraine in the coming months, a symbol of the war-torn country's return to some sense of normalcy and a show of support after the American fast-food chain pulled out of Russia.

The burger giant closed its Ukrainian restaurants after Russia's invasion nearly six months ago but has continued to pay more than 10,000 McDonald's employees in the country.

McDonald's said Thursday that it will begin gradually reopening some restaurants in the capital, Kyiv, and western Ukraine, where other companies are doing business away from the fighting. Western businesses like Nike, KFC and Spanish clothing retailer Mango are open in Kyiv.

While it will start to reopen in Ukraine, McDonald's has sold its 850 restaurants in Russia to a franchise owner. That came three decades after McDonald's opened its first location in Moscow, becoming a powerful symbol of easing Cold War tensions.

McDonald's had shuttered hundreds of Russian locations in March, costing the company about $55 million US per month. Selling its Russian restaurants was the first time the company has "de-arched," or exited a major market.

Aug. 11, 2022 My birthday: I went to the Marble Slab Creamery at 11 am  when they opened and showed the East Indian girl my coupon and got a free ice cream in a cup.  I chose Birthday Cake and it didn't really taste like anything.  It wasn't really sweet.  I put the mix- ins of Nestle Crunch and marshmallows.

At dinner, I ordered 2 large pizzas from pizzas from Domino's online.  If you have an account, after you order 6 pizzas, you can get a free one.  The coupon was unlimited large pizzas with 2 toppings for $10.99.
My dad then picked up the ice cream cake from Dairy Queen.  The design was a unicorn with a rainbow mane and horn, with red icing and rainbow sprinkles around it.  That design is something I never would have chosen because it's too bright and colorful.  The design doesn't matter, because it's about the taste.
Then I remembered that the birthday cake in the Dairy Queen ice cream cake tastes like the one in Marble Slab Creamery.  They taste the same.
I didn't really do anything exciting on my birthday.
However, I did use my digital camera and took pictures of all the fun places I went to like the Edmonton Valley Zoo, the Cariwest Festival, and a few pictures of the cake, and me with the cake.
