This is from my www.badcb.blogspot.com:
Jun. 14 Blogs: I found this through
my Freelance Writer's email:
The Daily
Reese: This is a really good blog
post. It seems to be about a daughter writing to her father who passed away.

Joe Hinojosa:
This blog post is about asking: "Do you
feel exposed every time you commit something to writing?" He talks
about mixed feelings like how he doesn't like his writing/ blog to be
judged, but he does like it when someone reads his post and makes a
comment. There was a poll at the bottom to the question. I answered
it and I was with the majority (35%):
"Not really, but I appreciate people's feedback."

Jun. 15 The Collector: A few weeks ago, they showed this movie called The Collector
on Space Channel on Sun. night. I caught the last 40min of it because
my brother wanted to watch something else. Here's the description on
imdb.com:
"Desperate to repay his debt to his ex-wife, an ex-con plots a heist at
his new employer's country home, unaware that a second criminal has also
targeted the property, and rigged it with a series of deadly traps."
I watched it because it stars Josh Stewart, he played JJ's boyfriend Will on Criminal Minds.
I recently saw him in the season 7 finale of the show where he played a
big part in it. He's a good actor. I caught the last 40min, so then I
went on Youtube and watched the first 1hr and 20min I missed. Here's
my review. I won't spoil it for you.
Josh Stewart plays the lead
Arkin who's an ex-con. He works as a construction guy at this huge
mansion. They introduce the husband and wife Michael and Victoria
Chase, the rebellious teen daughter Jill and 10 yr old daughter Hannah
who live there.
Arkin cases the place. They show his ex-wife and
10yr old daughter in the first quarter of the movie. He gets there and
starts to crack the safe, but the serial killer is there. He
is torturing the husband and
wife. It's very fast- paced because it all happens in one day.
There
is a segment where there is a lot of silence as Arkin is creeping
around the house. There is good pacing as the camera pans around to all
the booby traps. There is lots of suspense during that sequence and
through out the entire movie. It was creative with the torture and
booby traps.
It was scary because I jumped twice in the
beginning. There were a few really good surprises that I didn't expect
at all. When I saw the last 40min of the movie, I wanted to see the
whole thing so I can know why the serial killer kills people. There was
actually a reason why he kills people. Arkin asks someone that and
that person tells him. I didn't expect that reason.
I watch a lot of Criminal Minds
about the FBI figuring out why a serial killer kills people. I also
want to know for
story reasons. If the serial killer doesn't have a reason to kill
people, then I find the movie pointless. When I saw the last 40min., I
see that it was a dark and stormy night. It reminded me of 28 Days Later
(my favorite scary movie.) In both these movies, the last part of the
movie is basically running around a huge mansion from scary and bad
guys. Also the good guys rescuing and saving each other.
Review: It was from the writers of Saw, Patrick Melton and Marcus Dunstan. For all you fans of scary movies, Saw
movies, and torture- porn, you will like this movie. I give this movie
an average rating. It was entertaining and kept my attention. I like
Josh Stewart, the suspense, the creativity in the booby traps, and the
creative ways
the characters fought for their lives.
It was also creative in
the fact that they had the ex-con Arkin in it. It would be boring if it
was a regular family running around a booby-trapped house. Arkin is an
ex-con so he's tough and smart. He's different from a character in
regular family.
I guess it loses points because it's a torture-porn. I'm not really a fan of Saw movies. I only saw the first one. I did like watching The Collector on this Fri. night.
Jun. 16 Zach Lipovsky: I wanted to email this filmmaker, but I couldn't contact him on his official website:
http://www.zachlipovsky.com/ZachLipovksy/Home.htm
I
then went and found his Facebook fan page and posted on the wall. Then
I found his real page, and emailed him the same message:
Hi Zach
I'm a fan of yours since I saw you On the Lot. I also read about you in The Globe and Mail on May, 30, 2012.
I hope to see more of your work.
Writing: Here is something I haven't done in a long time. I really thought about it, and I have been writing the Rain
script since 2009. It's been 3 and a half years and it's about 70
pages long. I want to get it to 90 pages. I was really busy with my
life and there was a lot of script- writing and blogging.
2009: I was working full-time, and looking for an office job. I was mainly re-writing The Vertex Fighter and pitching that script in my free time. There
was a lot of writing a new script. I reread my Garret script that I wrote back then. It was basically The Vertex Fighter with different character names.
I also wrote Daniel. It's like Garret, but without MMA. I reread Daniel, and I thought it was kind of boring. Things do happen in the script, but what was the point of it? I deleted Garret and Daniel off my 3.5 floppy disk, but I kept the drafts saved in my
email.
It's interesting to read something you wrote a few years
ago. It's like taking a snapshot of your life. Kind of like rereading
my blog.
Jun. 18 Rain script: Today I was going through all those saved drafts I had in my email account of the Rain
script. I would say it has certainly improved from the 2009 version to
the present version. I reread a scene and noticed the inconsistency in
dialogue.
I also noticed that the bad guys need to be more bad.
From what I've read, the bad guys seem to be more like annoying and
intruding into the lead character's life. There needs to be more
danger.
Jun. 19 FAVA: I "liked"
FAVA on Facebook and I got an invite to a Producing class from Sept.
4-Dec. 11. It's a weekly class for 3 hrs. It costs $1000. If I
remember correctly, one writing class at Professional Writing was like
$500 something.
They also invited me to "Get a Grip! with Dean
Davey" on July 18. It's about grip and lighting. It's for FAVA members
only. I'm not really interested in
lighting.
Jun. 20 Edmonton Film School:
I was going through my old agenda, and I found something I wrote in
2009. It's about the Edmonton Film School. From the website, it seems
this school came out in 2005. It looks like it hasn't been updated
since 2008. It's like FAVA with some film making classes for adults and
teens (not as much as FAVA does.) They both show their short films at
the Metro Cinema.
There's a section called "1 Day Film school" and it provides a tour of
FAVA.
http://edmontonfilmschool.com/news.html
Glenn Atyeo:
Interesting, it could be the law of attraction. I had contacted him
last year, but he never got back to me. I then found out he made a
short film called Red Flag and it's on the Edmonton Film School website.

I'm Tracy Au and I have a 2 year diploma in Professional Communication from MacEwan University. I'm an aspiring screenwriter. This blog is used to promote this TV movie The Vertex Fighter. If the ratings are good, it could be turned into a back door pilot. It's used to attract producers, directors, investors, cast, and crew who want to be part of this project. It’s also to attract the same people who will hire me to write for your TV/ movie. I have another blog www.badcb.blogspot.ca.

titles/ Cabin in the woods location
This is from my www.badcb.blogspot.com:
Jun. 12 Writing: I'm going to do some brainstorming here by writing about writing.
Titles: I was thinking about titles for my script like Dark Rain. However, the word "dark" is often used in scary movies like Left in Darkness (2006), Darkness Falls (2003), Darkness (2002).
There were also titles that aren't for scary movies like the TV action series Dark Angel and the Batman movie The Dark Knight.
Cabin in the woods location: There's a movie called The Cabin in the Woods written by Buffy creator Joss Whedon and Buffy writer Drew Goddard. I have read really good reviews about it and how there are really good plot twists. It's like a parody making fun of the cliche of stereotypical teens going to a cabin to party.
There's more to what meets the eye because the teens are under observation by some unknown group of scientists. I haven't seen it though, so I don't totally know. Here's the imdb.com site:
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1259521/
The cabin in the woods is a common location for a scary movie because of the isolation. There is no place to run, but into the dark woods. The police can't come to rescue you, or at least not get there very fast.

producer/ Crescent Productions/ Xlibris
This is from my www.badcb.blogspot.com:
June 6 Producer: Today I met up with a TV producer to discuss development. It was about 15 min. long. I treated it like a job interview by preparing myself physically. I dressed in a button- down shirt, and had washed my hair. I also brought my resume and a notepad and pen to take notes.
I did my research and came in 10min early. I pitched my The Vertex Fighter script, told him my educational background, and producers and writers I met and talked with. I did some name dropping there. lol.
He had told me (like the other producers did) of how it's hard to get into the industry. He told me to do other writing gigs and not just write for TV. I told him I did submit stories to magazines and had 2 blogs. He asked to read my blog and I wrote it down.
I'm going to submit the synopsis and script to him because he asked. I tried to print the submission form, but my printer is on the fritz again. It did work a couple of weeks ago. I pressed print, nothing came out, until hours later.
Social skills: He had told me where he was from and how he liked Edmonton. Then he paused. I have just been listening and saying "Yeah." I then thought I should say something, so I said that I liked Edmonton for all the schools here and how there are lots of fun things to do here.
You need to build a rapport.
Productive: For my two days off, I've been very productive with spending hours pitching my script.
Jun. 9 Hubpages.com: Have you ever heard of Hubpages.com? I may have, but I don't totally know. I was reading my old Freelance Writer's group emails and read an article from there. Hubpages is like a blog site, but you can get paid if you put ads on your site.
That's like Blogger. Both sites talk about how you can find out how many people read your site on a daily basis, and comments. I already have two blogs on Blogger, so this one may not be necessary. Check it out:
http://hubpages.com/
Jun. 11 Linked In: This is the first time ever. Someone invited me on Linked In, who wasn't a classmate of mine. It's Kris Rurka, a casting director. You can check out his work here:
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1221685/
He's connected with 4 other producers I know. I'm usually the one looking up producers on Linked In to connect with.
Call back: I got a call the other day to do a job interview. Then today they called me saying they did some interviews already, and hired someone so I don't have to come. That's okay and has happened before where I am to go to an interview, and they fill the position.
Creativity: I was going through my Freelance Writer email and found this link on how to be more creative. Go to an art museum, go to live shows, go to literary readings, read all sorts of books, listen to different kinds of music. I read and listen to all kinds of music to be more creative.
Here's the inspirational post:
http://hiddenriverarts.wordpress.com/2012/06/06/defining-creativity/?goback=.gde_101577_member_121779044
It said to read the The Artist's Way by Julia Cameron:
http://www.amazon.com/The-Artists-Way-Spiritual-Creativity/dp/0874776945
Kel Fulgham: I found this also on Freelance Writers group email. This interview is to Kel Fulgham who wrote the novel The Sadist. It talked about e-books and Amazon on publishing. He is an African-American man. He talked about having a full-time job and then writing on the side.
http://inktweet.com/kel-fulgham-on-his-writing-style-books-life-and-what-not/?goback=.gde_101577_member_121464468
Jun. 12 Blog: I found this also through Freelance Writers. Kim Lee Patterson is a 17 yr old African- American girl talking about writing. She says this:
"Earning a living is a MUST, whether you have a job you love, or one you love to hate. 'Being' who you’ve always wanted to be is a choice. A choice you and I both have to make."
http://writersforlife.wordpress.com/2012/05/27/what-do-you-want-to-be/?goback=.gde_101577_member_118997103
Novel: I've been reading all these Freelance Writer's emails. A lot of the links are about self-publishing and/ or how to get published. There was The Book of Awesome by Neil Parischa who started a blog, and the book was his blog posts. There are a lot of books where a person does something like spend a year doing this one activity, and then writes about it and gets published.
Is there anyone here who thinks Tracy's Blog should be turned into a book?
Crescent Productions: I found this in my bookmarks. It's more focused on making films about religion like Islam. Aleem Karmali is a producer/ director. It turns out he has: "twice received the Film and Video Arts Society's (FAVA) Lisa Trofimova Video Prize in 2002 and 2004." I don't think this company is really for me.
However, I did watch his 2min short film Evasion. It was very creative. The story is a wife yelling at her husband. He then kills her. He parks his car and walks over to a bridge to see where he should dump the body. A carjacker comes and steals the car and he picks up the bloody knife.
On the news, the carjacker is arrested for speeding. The police found the body and charged him with murder too. The husband is happy that he got away with murder.
http://www.crescentproductions.com/evasion.html
Glenn Atyeo: He is a director I found on a Kijiji Ad he posted: "Do you want to bring your project to life?" It was back in summer 2011. You can look him up on my www.thevertexfighter.blogspot.com. I emailed him a few times on his email address and he never got back to me. So I emailed him again on Facebook this time.
Jun. 13 Submission: I've been trying to print out this submission release form a couple of times, and it doesn't work. Today I went to the library to print it. The librarian was very helpful. She converted the pdf file to a Word file and was able to print it. I thanked her.
I went home and filled out the form and faxed it. Then I emailed my other material to the producer.
Xlibris: I found this brochure that I got from the self-publishing company called Xlibris. I got a couple of phone calls from them before. The brochure is really professional and glossy. I got this years ago and am reading it now.
The website says you can retain all the rights to your book and you can earn royalties on every sale. Here's the website:
http://www2.xlibris.com/about_xlibris.html
As a kid and teenager, I've love reading books. Then I got older and liked to go on the internet to read about TV shows, movies, comment on TV shows and movies. I like reading newspapers and internet articles. I'm not really into reading or writing a novel. I've mainly been focused on getting my script produced.
Jun. 14 Pros and cons: I emailed a producer my The Vertex Fighter script on Jun. 12. Two days later he got back to me. He emailed me back within 2 days, which is so fast. The fastest a producer has ever gotten back to me within reading my script is like 3 weeks. That's a pro.
The cons are that he criticized my script. He said what a lot of other producers and writers have said before him: that I need to work on my dialogue.
Short film: I had emailed Aleem Karmali to compliment him on his short film Evasion. He emailed back: "Thanks! I appreciate it."

Career Day
This is from www.badcb.blogspot.com:
Jun. 12 Career Day:
I was looking up and pitching my script to production companies today.
I found this short film on Montefiore Films. It's so cute and funny.
It's an elementary class and there's a Career Day as kids bring their
parents. One little girl Ella is by herself.
Teacher: What about your father?
Ella: He can't come today because he has a hearing.
Teacher: Is he a lawyer?
Ella: No, but his lawyer will be there.
lol.

Alan Kingsberg/ FAVA/ freelancing infographic
This is from www.badcb.blogspot.com:
Jun. 2 Alan Kingsberg: I was going through my Freelance Writer's group emails and there was a link about the TV writer Alan Kingsberg. He holds a class about TV writing, and his students have written for shows like 30 Rock and New Girl. Check out his site:
http://alankingsberg.com/?goback=.gde_101577_member_115353791
I checked out his credits on imdb.com and he has written some episodes for Are You Afraid of the Dark? I used to watch that show back in 1994 when I was 9 yrs old. Then Family Channel played repeats and I tuned in here and there when I was a teenager. I read the synopsis of the episodes "The Tale of Many Faces", "The Tale of the Photo Finish", and "The Tale of Jake the Snake."
They sound like really good stories.
http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0455468/
Halo Publishing: I was also going through Freelance Writers, I found Halo Publishing. It's self-publishing. I have cut out some articles from the newspaper about self-publishing before. If you're interested, go here:
http://halopublishing.com/about-halo-publishing.html
Wise Grey Owl: I found this site where they "support indie authors and writers." There are a bunch of books to check out here:
http://www.wisegreyowl.co.uk/php/content.php?PageName=Home&Books=Promotion
eBook: I've also read about some writers advertising to download their book on an Amazon Kindle or other eBooks available.
The Vertex Fighter music: I was thinking that the song "No She Didn't" by Miguel should be used in The Vertex Fighter. It's a fast song that you can dance and fight to in the TV movie.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=89QvjHBr16o&feature=related
Jun. 3 Priming: I read in 59 Seconds: Think a Little, Change a Lot about how to be more creative. He talked about priming and that is preparing yourself to be more creative. So I've been reading old writing newspaper articles I clipped out, and those Freelance Writer group emails. I have also written about other movies and how it's related to my script.
Writing: So today I worked on my Rain script for 30min. I was on the computer rewriting a couple of scenes.
FAVA: I found this FAVA 2010-2011 education calender on my desk. Now I remember that Marty Chan gave this and the Lit Fest brochure when I met with him. There are classes like Producing, Video Kitchen (to make a short film), Sound Design, Acting and the Camera, Main Course, Screenwriting, and Doc Shop.
The Screenwriting class is taught by Conni Massing. I had talked with her on the phone when she was the Writer in Residence at the library back in 2009. The class is like $300 for 4 months. There are writing courses at the University of Alberta's continuing education classes that are held in Enterprise Square. I get those fliers.
There is the Screenwriting class at Grant MacEwan. The thing is, I'm cheap. I don't want to spend hundreds of dollars on classes. Then I'll spend $12 on a library card and check out screenwriting books.
Jun. 5 Dreamspeakers.org: I was going through the new Avenue magazine and there was a festival section. One was about a Dreamspeakers Film Festival. It's for Aboriginal filmmakers. I noticed the Every Emotion Costs short film. I see the screencap of the back of the head and thought: "Is that Nathaniel Arcand from Heartland?"
I saw a bit of the trailer, and it looked really good. I was right, it was Arcand. I have met him in 2008 when he dropped by at the Soup place and I asked him if he was on the TV show Heartland. That was so cool that I met him.
Nite Fall Studios: The short film is also produced by Nite Fall Studios:
http://www.nitefallstudios.com/
Zeitgeist Films: This is New York distribution company. It sounded familiar and I read it in a newspaper article. I check the site, and there's no contact info.
Submission: The important thing is that I submitted my resume to a production company. An even bigger thing is that I submitted my The Vertex Fighter script to this big production company. There was this really long form I had to fill out.
Writing: I feel good after that submission. A production company had asked for a 1 page synopsis and I wrote it. Then I submitted to this production company today that asked for a 250 word synopsis. I then had to shorten 600-something words to 250. It was hard because I was trying to cut out words in the synopsis.
I then got kind of frustrated and took a little break by sending my weekly email/ blog post. I went back to the 250 words, and decided to start fresh. Just think about the characters and the important plot points. Then I did the word count and it was exactly 250 words. lol.
American Cannibals: I was going through my notes and found "American Cannibals about 2 writers pitching their reality TV show." I checked it on imdb.com and it may be a mockumentary (a documentary trying to pass off as real). Maybe it's a real documentary.

Freelancing infographic: I found this through Freelance Writer's group. This is a cool and fun infographic that shows the pros and cons of being a freelancer. I didn't know that 60% of them were women, and 20% of freelancers have masters degrees. IT freelancers make the most money.
It talked a lot of cons of how 8 in 10 freelancers didn't get enough work in 2009. However, nearly 50% saw their incomes increase in the past year.

Freelance tips: Here's a good article about being a freelancer. One tip is about taxes. A tip is about don't send generic proposals to a company. A writer's proposal is supposed to be unique. It's kind of like a resume tip. For each job you apply to, you should tailor your resume to the job ad.
"Choose a genre that you know, instead of what's popular." Work on being an expert in your genre.

Blog: I found this blog written by La Luna. She's an African-American woman in NYC who mainly writes book reviews. I read a bit of the post "The Wave" by Todd Strasser that analyze how the holocaust occured and the Germans didn't know about it. It talked about a history class experiment that taught how "blind obedience" can occur. Here's the blog:

Flashback: That reminds me in 2003, I was in social studies class that saw a movie about it. It looks like it was shot in the 1980s and how a history class studied the holocaust and the teacher does the experiment on them.
Jun. 2 Alan Kingsberg: I was going through my Freelance Writer's group emails and there was a link about the TV writer Alan Kingsberg. He holds a class about TV writing, and his students have written for shows like 30 Rock and New Girl. Check out his site:

I checked out his credits on imdb.com and he has written some episodes for Are You Afraid of the Dark? I used to watch that show back in 1994 when I was 9 yrs old. Then Family Channel played repeats and I tuned in here and there when I was a teenager. I read the synopsis of the episodes "The Tale of Many Faces", "The Tale of the Photo Finish", and "The Tale of Jake the Snake."
They sound like really good stories.

Zeitgeist Films: This is New York distribution company. It sounded familiar and I read it in a newspaper article. I check the site, and there's no contact info.
Submission: The important thing is that I submitted my resume to a production company. An even bigger thing is that I submitted my The Vertex Fighter script to this big production company. There was this really long form I had to fill out.
