grey issues (Part 5)/ TV and movie comparisons -Justin Berry/ strippers/ sugar babies

This is from my May 2023 blog post:

TV and movie comparisons/ Angel season 3 ep 1 "Heartthrob" question

This is my Jul. 2022 blog post:

Should I continue into TV production? (Part 4)/ Why do you want to be a TV writer?

I want to ENTERTAIN people as a TV writer.

Now I want to EDUCATE and INFORM people as a blogger.

Sept. 4, 2022 My life purpose: It seems like I'm not going to be able to become a TV writer and producer.

My life purpose is to entertain and make people happy, educate, and inform people as a writer/ blogger.

When you read these "TV and movie comparisons" about creative writing and screenwriting, I hope you are entertained by this and learn about writing.

Nov. 21, 2022 There is a video tape of a character doing something bad and illegal.  Another character has the videotape and blackmails the other character:

My script idea: I had thought of something like this before in 2011-2012.  A character is forced to work as a stripper for the bad guy at his strip club.  If she doesn't, he will go to the police with something on her.

I'm sure some of you guys are reading this and like: "What kind of story is that?"

When a bad guy blackmails someone, you're supposed to get money and/ or to get them to do something hard or difficult that the bad guy can't do themselves.

In TV and movies, and real life, there is a bad guy who threatens to hurt the good guy's friend, family member, or loved one to get the good guy to do something for them.

The Cleaning Lady: If you don't want to be spoiled, skip this part.

In season 2, there is a video of Fiona's son Chris getting into a fight with his uncle Marco, and he pushes him, and Marco falls down the stairs.  He dies.

The Motel Owner has a videotape of this and blackmails Fiona to give him $10K because of the lost business with the police spooking all the guests.

https://badcb.blogspot.com/2023/05/tv-and-movie-comparisons-angel-season-3.html

I remember way back in 2011- 2012, I was telling Angela about the story idea.

Angela: If you're being forced to do something, you go to the police.

Yeah, but not for The Cleaning Lady storyline.

A Bad Guy points a gun at the Good Guy to rob them.  This happens in TV, movies, and real life to:

-open the cash register

-open the safe

-open the vault

Seventeen magazine: I read this in 2007.  A teen girl was chatting with someone online, and he said he was going to hurt or kill her and her family if she didn't take off her clothes on webcam.

She did and as she was doing it, she was crying.

Now she's 100% victim because someone threatened to hurt and kill her and her family.

Jan. 11, 2026: I should have titled this "grey issues/ TV and movie comparisons."

I called this "TV and movie comparisons" because I wrote about fictional TV shows and movies.

I should have called this a "grey issues" because I also wrote about real people on talk shows and news magazine shows, and my real -life examples.

This blog post will be a companion blog post to the above.

Justin Berry (and taking off your clothes on webcam):

May 24, 2024 My opinion: The Seventeen magazine story is kind of a fuzzy memory to me.  I want to know:

1. Did her address show up and this proves this guy on the internet knows where she lives?

If he knows her address, then she is in real and present danger.

2. Did he say to her:

"If you close or turn off the webcam,

tell your parents and guardians,

and call the police,

I will kill you"?

Jan. 11, 2026:

3. Was this girl alone at home and she couldn't go to her parents and guardians because they weren't there?

4. Was there a sibling there, and they are younger or older, they might still say: "I'll call the police" and the girl slowly takes off her clothes?

If you're forced to do something, you call the police:

However, you usually report to the police like after the crime has been committed and not during it.

A teen takes off his or her clothes on webcam:

Jul. 15, 2024 W- Five: I watched this newsmagazine show.  This was probably in 2003-2004.  They profiled a teen girl with a webcam.  She post some pictures showing off her body and wearing tight and revealing clothes.

She talked about and showed that she gets gifts like VHS tapes of movies from people who go to her site.

Jan. 11, 2026 My opinion: I was 18 yrs old when I watched this.

Pros:

1. She didn't take off all her clothes on webcam.

2. She didn't do anything sexual on webcam.

Con:

1. She was posing in a sexually -suggestive way.

There is a photo of her lifting up her shirt to show her bra.

A photo of her laying on the bed and showing off her legs.

If she was wearing tight and revealing clothes, and standing and sitting there, and not posing in a sexually -suggestive way, than that would be fine.

Strippers:

Someone is being forced to work as a stripper:

Jul. 15, 2024 "Instagram influencer jailed for trafficking and slavery": Today I found this article by Hannah Price on BBC Eye Investigations and Yahoo.  This is where women were forced to work as a stripper.

Here's an excerpt:

When two young Brazilian women were reported missing in September 2022, their families and the FBI launched a desperate search across the US to find them. All they knew was that they were living with wellness influencer Kat Torres.

Torres has now been sentenced to eight years in prison for the human trafficking and slavery of one of those women. The BBC World Service has also been told that charges have been filed against her in relation to a second woman.

Desirrê Freitas, a Brazilian woman living in Germany, and Brazilian Letícia Maia - the two women whose disappearance would go on to spark the FBI-led search - moved to live with Torres. Another Brazilian woman, who we are calling Sol, was also recruited.

Within weeks, Desirrê says Torres pressured her into working at a local strip club, saying if she did not comply Desirrê would have to repay all the money she had spent on her: flights, accommodation, furniture for her room, and even the “witchcraft” Torres had performed.

Desirrê says not only she did not have this money, she also believed at the time in the spiritual powers Torres claimed to have, so when Torres threatened to curse her for not following orders she was terrified.

Reluctantly, Desirrê agreed to work as a stripper.

A manager from the strip club, James, told the BBC she would work extremely long hours, seven days a week.

Desirrê and Sol say the women in the Austin mansion were subjected to strict house rules. They describe

being forbidden from speaking to each other,

needing Torres’ permission to leave their rooms

 - even to use the bathroom

 - and being required to immediately hand over all earnings.

“It was very difficult to, you know, get out of the situation because she holds your money,” Sol told the BBC.

“It was terrifying. I thought something could happen to me because she had all my information, my passport, my driving licence.”

But Sol says she realised she needed to somehow escape after overhearing a phone call in which Torres was telling another client she must work as a prostitute in Brazil as a “punishment”.

Sol was able to leave with the help of an ex-boyfriend.

W- Five: I remember watching this in 2003-2004 and my memory is kind of fuzzy.  The host Victor Malarek interviewed this woman who came to Canada and had to work as a stripper to pay someone back.

She gets paid $10 for a lap dance, and $8 goes to this other person (I think it was her boss?)  She has to do 500 lap dances.

She then had a friend who was able to help her get out of the strip club.

Jan. 22, 2026 My real -life examples:

2009: I wrote about this before.  I was working at the Soup Place #1, and my 40 -something yr old friend Sherry came by.

Sherry: I knew this woman who had really bad dyslexia and she couldn't read so it was hard for her to get a job.  She had a baby so she could get on welfare and then would get income every month.

Tracy: What if she got a job cleaning?

Sherry: She wouldn't know which bottle is soap and which is bleach if both bottles are the same color.

Tracy: Well she might draw a heart on the bottle as a way to know what it is.  Or she can work as a stripper where you don't have to read.

My opinion: I wasn't trying to be mean, funny, or snarky.  I really thought of that solution.

Will Trent: I was watching this TV show and Will has dyslexia.

He has an app that reads for him.

TV and movie comparisons- Justin Berry/ strippers/ sugar babies

Dec. 25, 2023 Real life examples: I know this young woman in late teens Br and she worked at my Hotel Restaurant job.  This was like in 2013.

Br: If I didn't get this job, I was going to work at Diamonds (the strip club.)

Br was still struggling financially.

This was probably in 2015.  I met this 20 yr old woman Bo at the Hotel Restaurant job.  She was eating 1 meal a day at the restaurant she worked at before getting this job.

Tracy: Have you thought of working as a stripper?

Bo: Shh... my mom was a stripper and I don't want to be anything like her.

https://badcb.blogspot.com/2024/01/tv-and-movie-comparisons-justin-berry.html

Jan. 22, 2026 My opinion: I wasn't trying to be mean, funny, or snarky.

I wasn't trying to hurt her mentally and emotionally by hurting her feelings.

I wasn't trying to hurt her physically by trying to get her to put herself in real and present danger.

I really thought of that solution.

Jan. 3, 2026 Human trafficking and sex trafficking:

FBI S8 Ep 5 "Falsetto":

"Maggie partners with Eva to hunt a killer after a shocking daytime stabbing. After a subsequent murder, they realize the assassin has a hit list."

https://www.imdb.com/title/tt38164706/?ref_=ttep_ep_5

In the episode, there are these young woman who are dressed in tight dresses and they're auditioning by singing.

The woman host gets shot.

Maggie and Eva interview one of the women Mirabel:

Mirabel: I heard of this job from a friend of a friend who was kind of sketch (sketchy) about this rich guy who likes to party.  If you can sing and dance, you can get on the boat and get paid crazy money for 10 days.  If he really likes you, you can stay there longer.

You don't have to have sex with him unless you want to.

Maggie: They told you this at the audition?

Mirabel: Yeah.  Am I in trouble?

Maggie: No, but you would be if you got on the boat.

Maggie and Eva start to leave.

Mirabel: Can I get my passport back?

Maggie: You gave them your passport?

Mirabel: Yeah, in case we would be leaving the country after this.

Gaps of knowledge: Mirabel did say the "friend of a friend was kind of sketch" so she did know this is kind of bad.

My opinion: There wasn't a scene where Maggie and Eva talk to the group of women:

"You guys are going to be sex trafficked if you get on that boat.

Please be more careful and aware of this.

You should not give your passports to someone you don't know."

The audience and viewers who are watching this and learned this or already know that.

This is edu- tainment.  This show educates and entertains people.

Jan. 24, 2026:

Josh F, Lethbridge , Alberta, would like to know:

Where do you typically go to meet new people and make connections?

Through friends or family    29.49% (1201)

Work or school    18.61% (758)

At social events or community activities    15.25% (621)

Other    15.18% (618)

Through hobbies or sports    10.98% (447)

Online or through social apps    7.20% (293)

My opinion: At social events or community activities.  The Community League and Meetups.

I was going to say: "There are a lot of ways to meet new people and make friends instead of hiring someone.  You can go to Meetups."

Then this poll shows up.

"Scrubs: Zach Braff Set to Return for ABC Sitcom Revival"/ "‘Scrubs’ Reboot: The Gang Is Back Together For First Table Read & Cast Photo"

May 22, 2025 "Scrubs: Zach Braff Set to Return for ABC Sitcom Revival": Today I found this article on TV series finale.com:

A key component of the Scrubs revival has been locked in place. According to Deadline, Zach Braff will return for the reboot, which is currently being developed by ABC.

There were some hiccups along the way. Braff didn’t immediately sign to join the reboot. He wants the series to be filmed in Los Angeles and not Vancouver. It isn’t known if he got his wish, but he finally agreed to sign on for the Scrubs reboot.

ABC and Bill Lawrence can now start making deals with the remaining former cast members, including Donald Faison and Sarah Chalke.

A reboot of the series will be a hybrid that focuses on a new group of characters while also examining the original cast.

Additional details will be announced later.

Sept. 26, 2025 "‘Scrubs’ Reboot: The Gang Is Back Together For First Table Read & Cast Photo": Today I found this article by Denise Petski on Deadline:

The band is back together. The original main cast of Scrubs reunited today for the first table read for the upcoming ABC reboot. You can see the cast photo above, featuring original series creator Bill Lawrence and OG stars Donald FaisonSarah ChalkeZach Braff, Judy Reyes and John C. McGinley.

Given a straight-to-series order by ABC in July, the new series will follow JD Dorian (Braff) and Christopher Turk (Faison), who scrub in together for the first time in a long time- medicine has changed, interns have changed, but their bromance has stood the test of time.

Characters new and old navigate the waters of Sacred Heart with laughter, heart and some surprises along the way.

Lawrence executive produces the reboot, with Scrubs alums Tim Hobert and Aseem Batra as showrunners and executive producers.

Hobert was a writer, executive producer and consulting producer on Scrubs

Batra was a writer and story editor.

Jeff Ingold and Liza Katzer also will EP the reboot on behalf of Lawrence’s production company, Doozer.

The original series ran on NBC for seven seasons from 2001-08 and then on ABC for two more in 2009-10. It followed medical interns Dorian, Turk and Elliot Reid (Chalke) as well as other personnel at the Sacred Heart Hospital.

Of the reboot, Lawrence previously told Deadline that he envisions Scrubs 2.0 as a hybrid between a

revival,

revisiting original characters a decade and a half after the original series ended its run,

and a reboot, bringing back the original concept with new surgical interns.

The series won two Primetime Emmys over the course of its run as well as a Peabody Award in 2006.

A premiere date for the reboot is TBA.

https://deadline.com/2025/09/scrubs-reboot-table-read-cast-phot-1236557652/

My opinion: I saw a couple of episodes of this show.  I wasn't really interested in doctors and medicine.

There's St. Denis Medical on NBC which is also a sitcom about people working in a hospital.  I have never watched this show.

"It follows an underfunded, understaffed hospital where the doctors and nurses try their best to treat patients while maintaining their own sanity."

"‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival Set at Disney+ With Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek Returning"/ "See Frankie Muniz reunite with “Malcolm in the Middle” older brothers ahead of revival series' premiere"

Dec. 13, 2024 "‘Malcolm in the Middle’ Revival Set at Disney+ With Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, Jane Kaczmarek Returning": Today I found this article by Joe Otterson on Variety:

Life isn’t that unfair, it turns out. A “Malcolm in the Middle” revival has been ordered at Disney+, Variety has learned.

The new iteration of the series hails from original series creator Linwood Boomer, with original stars Frankie Muniz, Bryan Cranston, and Jane Kaczmarek set to reprise their roles. Disney Branded Television has ordered four new episodes of the beloved sitcom. A premiere date has yet to be set.

Per the official logline,

“Malcolm (Muniz) and his daughter are drawn into the family’s chaos when Hal (Cranston) and Lois (Kaczmarek) demand his presence for their 40th wedding anniversary party.”

“‘Malcolm in the Middle’ is a landmark sitcom that captured the essence of family life with humor, heart and relatability,” said Ayo Davis, president of Disney Branded Television.

“Its hilarious and heartfelt portrayal of a lovably chaotic family resonated with audiences of all ages, and we’re so excited to welcome the original cast back to bring that magic to life again.

With Linwood Boomer and the creative team at the helm, these new episodes will have all the laughs, pranks, and mayhem fans loved — along with a few surprises that remind us why this show is so timeless.”

“Malcolm in the Middle” originally aired on Fox for seven seasons and 151 episodes from 2000-2006. The original cast included Muniz, Cranston, Kaczmarek, Justin Berfield, Erik Per Sullivan, and Christopher Masterson.

The series proved to be incredibly popular upon its debut and helped popularize single-camera comedies on television

The show racked up

33 Emmy nominations over the course of its run,

ultimately winning seven of the statuettes.

That includes two wins for Cloris Leachman for best guest actress in a comedy

and two wins each for

best directing

and best writing for a comedy series.

The entire series currently streams on Hulu and on Hulu on Disney+ for bundle subscribers.

“Malcolm in the Middle literally changed the face of the television comedy landscape when it premiered two decades ago, redefining what the genre could be,” said Karey Burke, president of 20th Television.

“When Linwood Boomer suggested it might be time to bring everyone’s favorite dysfunctional family back for a bit of a reunion,

we couldn’t think of a more iconic and influential series to revisit,

along with a truly brilliant cast to reunite.”

Boomer created the original series and returns as writer and executive producer. Cranston, Tracy Katsky of KatCo, Gail Berman and New Regency’s Arnon Milchan, Yariv Milchan and Natalie Lehmann are executive producers.

Ken Kwapis will direct all four episodes and executive produce. Jimmy Simons and Laura Delahaye are co-executive producers. The limited series is produced by 20th Television and New Regency.

Muniz is repped by Established Artists and Jackoway Austen Tyerman. Cranston is repped by UTA and Johnson Shapiro. Kaczmarek is repped by Paradigm Talent Agency.

With the news, this is the third broadcast network series from the early 2000s to get some kind of reboot or revival news in the past week.

It was previously reported that “Scrubs” reboot is in development at ABC from series creator Bill Lawrence,

while a reboot of “Prison Break” from Elgin James has gotten a pilot order at Hulu.

I loved Malcom in the middle growing up but no, just let it die already.

Almost every reboot or remake that comes out now feels like a soulless cash grabs

and fails to give the same energy as the original series even if you use the original cast

My opinion: If you don't want to watch it, you don't have to.

Oct. 23, 2025 "See Frankie Muniz reunite with “Malcolm in the Middle” older brothers ahead of revival series' premiere": Today I found this article by Ryan Coleman on Entertainment Weekly and Yahoo:

No one is the boss of Frankie Muniz now.

The racecar driver and star of Malcolm in the Middle shared a heartwarming family reunion photo on Thursday — minus the recast Dewey — ratcheting up excitement for the forthcoming revival series even further.

"I was told not to post this yet, but then I remembered the theme song.

I'm just too excited for y'all to see the new episodes and I miss my brothers,"

Muniz wrote over a posed shot with his older brothers from the beloved coming-of-age comedy, Justin Berfield and Christopher Masterson, from the last day of filming on the revival's Vancouver set.

Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Muniz and Disney+ for comment.

The Malcolm in the Middle theme song, composed and performed by They Might Be Giants, crescendoes with the rebellious chorus chant of, "You're not the boss of me now / You're not the boss of me now."

The series followed the misbegotten exploits of the titular middle child, as he struggles to grow up with a level head on his shoulders and make his voice heard amid the chaos caused by younger brother Dewey (Erik Per Sullivan), and older brothers Francis (Masterson) and Reese (Berfield).

Malcolm in the Middle ran for seven seasons on Fox, from 2000-2006.

The series was both popular and critically acclaimed during its run, picking up a

Peabody Award,

seven Emmys,

and even a Grammy

After years of stray comments from various cast members signaling their interest in a

possible revival

reboot,

or sequel series,

Disney+ ordered more Malcolm from original series creator Linwood Boomer in December.

Production on the revival wrapped in May, though a premiere date for the revival has yet to be announced.

In September, Muniz teased that "people will be surprised, in a sense, where everybody is and the story. But it's only four episodes."

The Emmy nominee acknowledged that "it's hard to fit in 20 years of stuff in four 30-minute episodes,"

but promised that fans "are going to be very happy with what they came up with."

My opinion: I mainly watched season 2 when I was a teen.  I wasn't that big of a fan.  This show was funny.

I probably will not watch this because I don't have Disney +.

I mainly watch broadcast TV.

Justin Barfield who plays Reese doesn't look anything like he did when he was younger and on the show.  I don't really recognize him.
