"With the help of a mysterious pill that enables the user to access one hundred percent of his brain abilities, a struggling writer becomes a financial wizard, but it also puts him in a new world with lots of dangers."
Why did you watch this?: It sounded interesting. Also the TV show that was based on the movie was to come out that fall. I saw the pilot and it was good, and then I never watched it again.
Pros:
1. It had a good opening. Eddie Mora (Bradley Cooper) is going to be killed. How will he get out of this situation?
2. There was an interesting inciting incident. Eddie meets his brother-in-law Vernon (Johnny Whitworth) this pill called NZT.
3. Good dialogue:
Eddie: I know what I needed to do, and how to do it.
I'm going to put that in my inspirational quotes.
4. It's a visual movie. It had interesting imagery like words and letters falls as he types. At first the movie is grey, and after he takes the drug, the movie becomes bright.
You need to show how the drug is affecting him and his life.
It's fun and exciting to watch Eddie write a book really fast and learn things fast. It's a cool and fun adventure with him. It's also inspiring.
5. There is good conflict, drama, and tension. Eddie goes to visit Vernon, but something happens to him.
Eddie thought of a plan to do investments to make a lot of money. He goes to Russian gangster Kevin Doyle (Darren Goldstein) to get money loan.
Carl Van Loon (Robert De Niro) finds Eddie.
There are also terrible side effects if he stops taking the drug.
Eddie puts time, effort, and money to find solutions to protect himself from other villains like Kevin and Carl, and the drug side effects.
This isn't an action movie, but there is some action involved.
Cons: None.
Would you watch this again?: This is a good movie. It is solid. I would be open to watching it again.
I had written about this in my journal right after I saw it:
You have to be smart. Being smart will set you free. Use your mind. "Free your mind" is from The Matrix.
I find Limitless inspirational because it's about fulfilling your full potential. Being smart and achieving as much as possible.
"You create your own limits"- Lionel Sanders. The Globe and Mail article "Breaking through" by Julian Uzielli on Sept. 28, 2015.
Dec. 15, 2019: At first, I didn't know what it was that I didn't like about this movie. It could be like the movie was trying too hard to be cool and fun to get viewers. There's nothing wrong with that. The movie company needs to create a movie that people would pay to see so they can make money.
Then I thought: "It's because everybody wants a magic pill or something good to happen to them with no effort on their part."
There's nothing wrong with people wanting that either. That does happen occasionally with different things happening to different people.
My real life example: Does anyone remember how I wrote that a few weeks ago someone shovelled my front sidewalk and walkway (and my neighbors) without me knowing who it was?
What I don't like: is that for people who constantly wish and want something to happen and don't put action towards their goal.
TV and movie comparisons:
Good Witch: While I'm at, I might as well add this show. I saw about 5 episodes, and it was mainly because it was during the summer before the good fall TV shows come on.
It seems like the show has a problem, and then it resolves itself.
My real life example: In some cases, it does happen in real life. There has been times where I signed up for an event, and then I was kind of not wanting to go when the day comes, and then I get an email and it says it's cancelled.
However, on this TV show, it happens all the time.
The season 5 ep "The Comet." There are 2 characters who are working at a food truck and it's so busy, that they may miss going to see the comet. Then conveniently the stove stops working and they have to close, thus making them able to see the comet.
Tracy's writing tip: You need more drama, conflict, and tension to make the story more interesting.

While I'm at it, I will add this too.
How characters get jobs that they are unqualified for:
Mar. 13, 2019 Arrow: In season 7, Black Siren has taken over Laurel's identity. Laurel is a lawyer. Then Siren reads some law books and resumes Laurel's life and becomes the DA. Siren never went to law school or worked really hard to become a DA. I feel like the job is handed to her and she is not qualified for it.
It's like she fakes it till she makes it. This is really unrealistic for someone with no law experience to be a DA.
Apr. 16, 2019 Riverdale: In season 3, I was watching this show and FP became the Sheriff because the Mayor Hermione appointed him the job. He has never been in law enforcement before.
He does have experience being a leader by leading the Serpents.
Dec. 19, 2019 How I Met Your Mother: My sister was watching this show and I was listening to it. Marshall is a lawyer and after 5 yrs of working as a lawyer, he gets a job offer to be a judge.
S: That's totally unrealistic. A lawyer has to work as a lawyer for at least 20 yrs before becoming a judge.
Dec. 20, 2019 How Tracy looks for a job: I already published this on this blog post in Oct. 2019: "Should I attend Certified Coach Practitioner – Edmonton | Nov 2019?"

I guess it's more realistic if he got offered to be partner at a law firm.
On the dramas, Arrow and Riverdale, the characters Black Siren and FP need more things to do on the show, so the writers wrote them to be in positions of power.
As for HIMYM, the episode was created where Marshall has to turn the down this great job because he was moving with his wife. (I'm not quite sure the reason).

Jan. 17, 2020 Real life example: Donald Trump: Here is about how Trump is unqualified to be President of the United States:
Oct. 29, 2016 "The double standard in politics, business": Today I found this article by Leah Eichler in the Globe and Mail. I usually stay away from writing about politics because it's polarizing. However, this is a good article:
“Imagine a woman who showed up [to a presidential debate] unprepared, sniffling like a coke addict and interrupting her opponent 70 times. Let’s further imagine that she’s had five kids by three men, was a repeated adulterer, had multiple bankruptcies, paid zero federal taxes and rooted for the housing crisis in which many thousands of families lost their homes. Wait … there’s more: She has never held any elected office in her life.”
My opinion: Is that really true with Trump having five kids by three women? I never looked him up. I know about his bankruptcies.

Oct. 22, 2019: This is from listening to all those self- development online series.
"If you want to get something different, then you have to do something different."
This is from Degrassi: The Next Generation. The Principal Archie Simpson said this to Imogen about the dress code in 2011:
Simpson: If you want to affect change, you have to know what kind of change you want to affect.
The main goal I was focusing on for the last 2 yrs was to get a regular job and be permanent.
My other goal was decluttering. 2016 was the Year of Decluttering where I donated 200 magazines to Value Village. This year I have been typing up a lot of TV and movie reviews and recycled a lot of scrap paper that I wrote on.
I hired a life/ career coach: This year I hired a life/ career coach, which is something I have never done before. It was a 6 month contract. I have done some shopping around in 2017. Then later on I did in 2018.
I worked on my resume and cover letter for my administrative assistant (and other professions like receptionist, dental receptionist, MOA) with J.
I then revised my regular job resumes like food counter attendant, server, etc.
I practiced my job interview skills.
Office jobs:
Office manger & receptionist
Regular jobs:
Bar, food & hospitality

Oct. 23, 2019 Kijiji: I look at this:
Office jobs:
Office manger & receptionist
Customer service
Healthcare
Hair stylist & salon
Regular jobs:
Bar, food & hospitality
Sales & retail sales
Part time & students
Career counseling: In 2012 I went to a couple of career counseling sessions at MacEwan. B told me that there is a lot of competition that people go to Kijiji and Indeed websites, so I should go to other websites and smaller companies.
Indeed: I have been on Indeed from 2017-2019. I stopped because there are over 100 applications for 1 position.

Applications: I can apply to 100-200 places a month on the internet and in-person.
Job interviews: I can get up to 5 job interviews a month.

Dec. 14, 2019 Richard Jewell: I read the good review by Peter Howell in the Star Metro.
"American security guard Richard Jewell (Paul Walter Hauser) saves thousands of lives from an exploding bomb at the 1996 Olympics, but is vilified by journalists and the press who falsely report that he was a terrorist.""
This is based on a true story, that I don't remember. I went to Wikipedia and spoiled myself.

All Oscar Nominations should be announced with an appropriate Simpsons screenshot and no explanation as to which is which. -Graham
My week:
Fri. Jan. 10, 2020 Potluck and Game night: I attended it.
There is this big pot.
Tracy: Let me guess: chili.
Mel: No.
Tracy: Stew.
Mel: No.
Tracy: Curry.
Mel: No. Borscht.
I then tried to guess the dessert that wrapped in foil.
Tracy: Brownies.
Mel: It's this strawberry rhubarb with granola on top.
Then I ate some vegan lasagna. I like lasagna. This was average. I also ate some meatballs from Olly Fresco's at City Centre mall. It's good. Also you get a really deep discount on Fri. after 3pm on their food.
We played the Game of Things again like guess who gave this answer:
"Things you like to shop for":
-ribbon
-stuffed animals
-gifts (my answer)
"Things that would not make a good impression"
Bohemian Rhapsody: I also talked to this 30 something yr old woman L. She watched Bohemian Rhapsody with her sons 8 and 10 yrs old and explained to them things like STDs, and boys liking girls, and boys liking boys. They should learn it from their parent than from what kids are saying.
Tracy: They should watch Degrassi: The Next Generation.
Sun. Jan. 12, 2020 Christmas party: I had emailed my supervisor so I can get a ticket to attend this party. However, it turns out he never got the email. I made sure I spelled his name right because it's an East Indian name. It turns out his name has a capital letter at the beginning of his first and last name. All the other managers email were lowercase.
However, it turned out fine because I went to work there. Then I was able to leave work a little early by 8pm and then I was able to go and eat the buffet. I ate Caesar salad, mashed potatoes with a little gravy, and salmon. The buffet was to close by 8:30pm.
It was like Vegas with the casino theme and decorations. I would say it was an average experience.
Drop Dead Diva: My co-worker Li who I worked with one shift before, we worked together again and she told me about this show.
Li: A model dies, and a lawyer dies. The lawyer goes to heaven, and the model is sent into the lawyer's body and has the same personality, but is smart like the lawyer.
"A vapid aspiring model killed in a car crash gets brought back to life as an intelligent, overweight lawyer, hoping to find the meaning of inner beauty."

Jan. 17, 2020 Work: Today was supposed to be busy at my 2nd restaurant job, and it wasn't.
Jan. 18, 2020: Today was actually busy at my 2nd restaurant job. I worked from 12pm- 7pm. When we closed, I got a lot of free food like muffins so I can put it in the freezer and eat it later.
